Currently in production, I’m working alongside a stellar cast of vocal talents such as John Thompson (Cold Feet, Alan Partridge), Richard Ayoade (IT Crowd, Mighty Boosh, Submarine), Emma Kennedy and more on an incredible new animation from the Japanese studios of Yoshimi & Katoi: Strange Hill High. Ssssh! Please read this in hushed tones! I have just started shooting a brand new drama/thriller for HBO. I can’t tell you much about it at this juncture except that it’s a spy thriller called Nemesis, created by the executive producer and 8-season writer of the X-Files, Frank Spotnitz,it’s bloody amazing and your boy is all up in there like swimwear. Ben’s the Actor, Doc’s the Stand Up

Yeah I know, it’s a little confusing for the hard of thinking. Now that I’m credited with creating a TV series as well as acting, writing etc, I figured it was about time to wheel out the ol’ government name so that a brother could get some official credit for once. Turns out there’s another Ben Smith in the entertainment business somewhere (can you believe that? I always felt my name was so exotic!) so I’ve stuck my Mum’s maiden name in the middle there… That’s right- look out for Ben Bailey Smith on upcoming shows such as BBC’s Strangehill High and HBO’s Nemesis in 2012! Four O’Clock Club Premieres Jan 13th 2012!

Yep, that’s right- my finest work to date- a 13 part comedy drama in the vein of Everybody Hates Chris and Malcolm in the Middle is about to take British teatime by storm as it hits CBBC on Friday 13th January at 5.30pm. Attack the Block on DVD!

Joe Cornish’s awesome directorial debut “Attack the Block” is one of the few movies that has mixed sci-fi/horror and kitchen sink humour with aplomb in my opinion and if you haven’t seen it, you now have no excuse as it’s out on DOOVDE so get the hell down to your local Hoomv with immediate effect. I’m plugging the arse out of this movie for a number of reasons: 1 Joe Cornish is the mother flipping man, 2- Big Talk produced it and they are quality, 3- I did a bit of music for it. Okay, okay- mainly 3. Don’t hate me coz I’m beautiful.

If you’re in like, Manningtree or something I’m not expecting you to fly to Clonmel just to see me but if you do I promise I’ll buy you a Guiness.*

Four o’Clock Club

Just wrapped on a three month shoot for groundbreaking new comedy-drama series Four o’Clock Club, to be aired on BBC 1 in January 2012. Think Malcolm in the Middle meets Flight of the Conchords… I’m co-creator, co-star, co-writer, co-musical director and co-coa drinker. Yes, it’s my baby. Here’s the gist:

Four o’Clock Club

Josh Carter runs things. At 13 years old, he is master of all he surveys- particularly his school, the run-down Elmsbury High. His art of manipulating everyone and everything on school grounds is second only to his desire to become a rap superstar. But Josh’s perfect world is about to come crumbling down. Ten years ago, another Carter named Nathan walked out of Elmsbury High in disgrace havin spent his entire time as a pupil creating mischief of the highest order. Funnily enough, his art of manipulating everyone and everything on school grounds was second only to his desire to become a rap superstar. Now he’s washed up. He’s hit rock bottom. In fact- lower than rock bottom: he’s training to be a teacher. His first placement: Elmsbury High, where the same Head remembers him with disgust, the custard is still served by the slice and a 13 year old boy is about to embark on an all out war with his own brother.
